Monitoring Help & Guides

Learn how to enable monitoring, understand alerts, and troubleshoot common issues.

Getting Started

How to enable monitoring

1. Navigate to your audit dashboard 2. Find the "Continuous Monitoring" section 3. Click the toggle to enable 4. Your monitoring window starts immediately 5. Daily re-runs will begin the next calendar day **Note:** Your monitoring window start date is set on first-ever enable and never resets (unless you upgrade plans).

Understanding your monitoring window

Once you enable monitoring, a timer starts: - **Exit Audit ($297):** 90 days to monitor - **Verify plan ($199/mo):** Unlimited days - **Portfolio plan ($599/mo):** Unlimited days When your window expires: - Monitoring automatically disables - You receive an expiry email - The toggle shows "window ended, upgrade to continue" **Important:** Toggling off and back on does NOT reset your window. The clock keeps running. This prevents plans from being circumvented by toggling.

Monitoring slots

Your plan includes a fixed number of monitoring slots (active audits you can monitor simultaneously): - **Verify ($199/mo):** 3 slots - **Portfolio ($599/mo):** 15 slots - **Exit Audit ($297):** No slot limit, but only 1 audit is included If you've used all slots and want to monitor a new audit, disable monitoring on an existing audit to free up a slot.

Understanding Alerts

When do I get alerts?

You get email alerts when something **meaningful** changes: - ✓ **Plausibility Score drops 10+ points** (e.g., 85 → 75) - ✓ **New CRITICAL or HIGH severity risks** appear - ✗ Minor score fluctuations (±5 points) — no alert - ✗ LOW or MEDIUM risks — no alert Example: If your score stays 82–88 for 30 days, you get no emails (stability = no news is good news).

What's in a monitoring alert email?

Each alert email includes: - **Domain name** being monitored - **Previous vs. new plausibility score** (e.g., "85 → 72") - **What changed:** List of new CRITICAL/HIGH risks - **Dashboard link** to view the full report - **Action button** to review the audit From there, you can: - View the detailed risk breakdown - See which data source changed - Download the full report - Share with your team

Window expiry alert

When your monitoring window is about to end (capped plans only): - You receive a notification 7 days before expiry - Dashboard shows "X days left" status - On the final day, monitoring auto-disables - You get an "end of window" email The email explains: - Your {N}-day monitoring window has ended - Options to upgrade or monitor a different audit - Link to dashboard to make changes

Dashboard & Reports

Monitoring status indicator

The monitoring toggle shows your current status: - **Active + many days left:** Muted text showing "60 days left" - **Active + ≤7 days left:** Amber highlight "3 days left" - **Expired:** Red toggle, grayed out "window ended" message Below the toggle, you'll see: - Last checked date - Last snapshot score - Score drift since previous snapshot (if ≥10 points, shown in red)

Monitoring history tab

On shared reports, there's a "Monitoring" tab showing: - Daily snapshot timeline (one entry per day) - Score on that date - Risk counts (CRITICAL, HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW) - Date of most recent change Buyers can use this to verify: - Score stability over time - When changes occurred - Whether risks are new or recurring

Disabling monitoring

Click the toggle to disable: - Monitoring stops immediately - Your window does NOT reset (if you re-enable later, timer continues) - Dashboard shows "Enable to monitor" message You can disable and re-enable as many times as you want during your window—the clock keeps running either way.

Troubleshooting

Why can't I enable monitoring?

**Reason 1: No available slots** - Your plan has a limit on concurrent monitored audits (e.g., 3 for Verify) - Disable monitoring on an existing audit to free a slot - Or upgrade to a plan with more slots **Reason 2: Window has expired** - Exit Audit or capped plans: 90-day window ended - Message: "Your {N}-day monitoring window has ended. Upgrade your plan for unlimited." - Solution: Upgrade to Verify or Portfolio (unlimited) **Reason 3: Audit not complete** - Monitoring only works on completed audits - Wait for the initial audit to finish, then enable monitoring

I'm not getting alerts

**Reason 1: No meaningful changes** - Your score and risks are stable (no alerts = good sign) - Minor fluctuations (±5 points) don't trigger emails **Reason 2: Email filtering** - Check spam/promotions folder for ProofCap emails - Add [email protected] to your contacts **Reason 3: Monitoring is disabled** - Go to dashboard, check toggle status - If disabled, toggle back on to resume **Reason 4: Window has expired** - On capped plans, monitoring auto-disables after {N} days - Check the toggle—if disabled with "window ended" message, see above

Score fluctuates every day

Minor daily fluctuations (±3–5 points) are normal and expected: - Data sources (Stripe, GA4) can have slight reporting delays - Cached data refreshes at different times - Weekday vs. weekend patterns in revenue/traffic This is **not a bug**—it's real data variance. **Alert threshold:** Only score drops of 10+ points trigger an email. This filters out noise while catching real problems.

Monitoring re-enabled after I disabled it

This shouldn't happen. If it does: 1. Check your team members (if on a team plan, someone else might have toggled it) 2. Check your email for an "alert" notification (you might have missed it) 3. Contact support with your audit ID Note: Toggling off is permanent—monitoring won't re-enable on its own.

Window expired, but I want to keep monitoring

**For Exit Audit users (90-day cap):** - Upgrade to Verify ($199/mo) or Portfolio ($599/mo) for unlimited duration - Upgrade resets your window to unlimited—you can monitor indefinitely **For Verify/Portfolio users:** - Your window is already unlimited, this shouldn't happen - Contact support if you see this message

Best Practices

For founders preparing to exit

1. **Start monitoring early** — aim for 30–90 days before closing 2. **Share a clean monitoring history** — link with buyers during diligence 3. **Fix issues proactively** — if alerts trigger, address them before buyers see them 4. **Include in data room** — share the monitored report as a primary diligence doc 5. **Reference stability in pitch** — "Verified stable for 60 days" is stronger than "one snapshot"

For buyers evaluating targets

1. **Monitor multiple targets** — enable on 2–3 shortlisted companies simultaneously 2. **Set a baseline** — run initial audits, then enable monitoring to track 30 days of stability 3. **Alert to action** — if alerts trigger, dig into the audit details—score drops are red flags 4. **Compare history** — compare monitoring periods across targets to identify most stable option 5. **Request seller data** — ask sellers for their monitoring history—transparency is a trust signal

For PE/brokers managing portfolios

1. **Monitor your top N holdings** — use all 15 slots to track key portfolio companies 2. **Triage alerts** — set up email filters to flag which portfolio company triggered alerts 3. **Weekly review** — scan monitoring status weekly for expiring windows or emerging issues 4. **Exit trigger** — monitoring alerts can signal when to increase sale pressure or improve operations 5. **Due diligence proof** — when underwriting new investments, request monitoring reports from sellers
